    Health issues unfortunately don't leave us alone at the weekend and people are often in need of medical assistance out of hours. Using NHS guidelines, we have provided some advice and information on where you can go for help when your GP is closed.

    Last year over 900 experiences of health and social care services were shared with Healthwatch Isle of Wight by members of the public.

    5 local Healthwatch organisations (Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Southampton and Portsmouth) have come together with NHS England Wessex to form 'Wessex Community Voices'.

    The theme of outpatient services became part of Healthwatch Isle of Wights workplan for 2014/15 following public engagement. Cancellation of appointments was adopted as the focus of the work, in particular the effects experienced by patients.

    Amongst Healthwatch Isle of Wights workplan topics, as chosen by the public, was complaints. In April 2015 a survey was devised to collect experiences from those who have been through the IW NHS Trust complaints procedure since January 2014.

    As part of the wider complaints workplan, Healthwatch Isle of Wights Enter and View Panel visited a sample of local GP surgeries to ascertain the accessibility of their complaints processes.

    During 2014 Healthwatch Isle of Wight received a strong set of feedback regarding the lack of services available for young people with Autism going through the transition from Children's Services to Adults Services.

    Following on from the Enter and View visits to a sample of GP surgeries to look at the accessibility of complaints processes, an analysis of each Isle of Wight GP practice website was undertaken, looking at complaints procedure information.

    Healthwatch Isle of Wight undertook this review of maternity services as follow up to a previous report to ensure that recommendations had been implemented.

    This year Healthwatch Isle of Wight's 'Mate Crime' film was presented at the Royal College of Medicine Conference in November 2017 and has been viewed over 1000 times.

    The topic of dentistry was supplementary to Healthwatch Isle of Wight's workplan for 2017, undertaken due to a consistently high volume of feedback relating to dentistry services.

    In 2016/17 cancer services were again identified by Healthwatch Isle of Wight as a topic for special attention. In mid-2017 people were invited to take part in a survey if they had used cancer services since January 2016.

    In 2017 the IW Clinical Commissioning Group asked Healthwatch Isle of Wight to carry out a survey and engage with the public to find out what local people want and need regarding primary care.

    In October 2017 Healthwatch Isle of Wight staff and volunteers visited ten dementia-focussed community groups across the Island, including all the Alzheimer cafes. People were informed of discussion sessions to be held and were invited to take part.
