Local voices needed to shape cancer services on the Isle of Wight
The project is seeking feedback from people who have been affected by cancer in any way, including patients, carers, family members and supporters. This includes people currently receiving care, those recovering from cancer, individuals who have been through screening, and those who received an all-clear.
The work will focus on people’s experiences of cancer services within the last 18 months and will explore the full cancer pathway. This includes early diagnosis and referrals, treatment both on and off the Island, communication with services, transport, support during treatment, and follow-up care and aftercare.
Public engagement will begin on World Cancer Day, 4 February, at St Mary’s Hospital, where Healthwatch Isle of Wight will be available to speak with Island residents, answer questions, and share information about how to take part. This local engagement is taking place alongside national developments, with the Government due to launch the National Cancer Plan for England on 4 February.
The project will help ensure that the lived experiences of Isle of Wight residents are clearly heard and reflected in local discussions about cancer services.
Healthwatch Isle of Wight will work closely with NHS services, local cancer support organisations and community networks to ensure the project is accessible and inclusive.
People can take part in a way that suits them, including:
- completing a short paper or online questionnaire
- speaking with Healthwatch at community engagement events
- taking part in one-to-one conversations, where preferred

Findings from the project will be shared with health and care decision-makers, and a summary report will be published in July 2026. The findings will also be shared at a public event later in the year.
