Healthwatch Isle of Wight GP Complaints Report 2015

Following on from the Enter and View visits to a sample of GP surgeries to look at the accessibility of complaints processes, an analysis of each Isle of Wight GP practice website was undertaken, looking at complaints procedure information.

Summary

GP providers are responsible for creating their own complaints policies and procedures, however there is legislation that states things they must do when handling complaints, which should be reflected in their policies.

Key findings

  • Healthwatch Isle of Wight were pleased to see that all GP Practices made reference to complaints on their websites. 
  • Upon speaking with staff at 9 of the local GP surgeries it was clear that GP practices had complaints procedures in place.
