GP Appointments: Access and Location Report 2016

Over the past 18 months Healthwatch Isle of Wight has received increasing amounts of feedback relating to long waiting times and difficulties in accessing GP appointments.

Summary

As previously reported by Healthwatch Isle of Wight, many people find the process both time consuming and frustrating.

This report contains a detailed analysis of the number of appointments available with a GP and a nurse prescriber inn the Island and how patients can access these appointments. 

Key findings

  • There are currently 142,356 patients registered at GP practices on the Isle of Wight
  • 5 out of 22 GP surgeries referred people to the Beacon Walk in Centre when there are no appointments available
  • Waiting times to see a GP on the Island range from 1-21 days. In the 17 surgeries that have them, the waiting times to see a nurse prescriber again varied from 1-21 days.
